Five days in Hong Kong with Fulvio Bonavia

Stockland Martel photo rep Emily Leonardo just got back from “a whirlwind trip” to Hong Kong with Milan-based photographer Fulvio Bonavia and his wife, Kristina Radic, and has filed this report of their adventure…

We spent the past week running around the steaming hot 100F city doing press interviews to promote an exhibition of Fulvio’s work called “Taste Matters in Central,” which is currently running at the Landmark, the most luxurious shopping mall in Hong Kong, through July 23. The show features 23 of his conceptual photographs illustrating food as fashion accessories, taken from his recently published book, A Matter of Taste. Our host was Sage Communications.

The show’s been getting a lot of attention. There was even a post on it at Justin Timberlake’s blog last week. (Click here to read it.)

Kristina and I accompanied Fulvio to press interviews with all the local newspapers, including South China Morning Post (the most important English-language Chinese newspaper), Hong Kong Economic Journal, Ming Pao Daily News, and In Magazine.

Fulvio also had two radio interviews at RTHK Radio Television Hong Kong: one with Radio 4 and one with Radio 3. These were my favorite interviews because they were live broadcasts, and the interviewers were eloquent and British-accented. It reminded me of NPR.

The highlights of our trip also included several dim sum (check out this great blog I found on dim sum in Hong Kong), our lunches, and a trip to the infamous Peak

.

The Peak was (pun intended) a high point of Emily's trip.

.

We also had a personal driving tour around Hong Kong with producer extraordinaire Mark Cumming and his wife, Victoria Allan—complete with an outing in a traditional Chinese fishing boat in Aberdeen…

We took a trip to the bird and flower market in Kowloon…

.

.
…and I went shopping, took early-morning yoga classes at Pure, which were given in English and Chinese, and visited Man Mo Temple.

This was my first visit to Hong Kong and Fulvio’s second. Hong Kong is definitely a fascinating city, and I will have to return one day so that I have a chance to see all the sites I missed, including the Big Buddha, and to hike one of the many lush wilderness trails just outside the city or get a foot massage at Happy Foot. It would be the perfect stopover on my next yoga retreat to Bali…
