Musician Ravi Coltrane has just released a new album, Spirit Fiction, and The New York Times Magazine sent a writer out to visit with him in his Brooklyn home. Coltrane is the son of legendary jazz artists John Coltrane and Alice Coltrane, and in the article he talks about growing up in their shadow, and how he endeavored to make his own path. The magazine commissioned Erik Madigan Heck to make a portrait of him, and the resulting image speaks to Coltrane’s radiant ambivalence.
