John Midgley photographs the stylish men of “Boardwalk Empire” for Men’s Journal

For the fashion feature “The Empire’s New Clothes,” Men’s Journal sent John Midgley to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to the set of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. His mission? To photograph its dapper stars Vincent Piazza, Michael Stuhlberg, Michael K. Williams, and Paul Sparks in period attire.

“The creeps and psychos and goons that make Boardwalk Empire the most stylish show on TV are back, and in the suits—strips, patterns, and plaids—that the show’s bold 1920’s garb inspired,” reads the copy.

“The set of Boardwalk Empire is so impressive and surreal, given its oddball location: the northernmost tip of Greenpoint. You feel transported into another time,” says John. “I love playing with sanity and reality and surreality, so I could see lots of potential.”

Here’s a look at “The Empire’s New Clothes,” from the September 2012 issue of Men’s Journal.
