Kwaku Alston went to Atlanta to photograph Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry for the cover of Essence‘s June issue, which just hit newsstands. “We only had a total of 30 minutes to photograph these two media moguls and create an iconic cover,” notes Kwaku. One of celebrity photographer Jeff Lipsky‘s first big shoots when he was starting out was with Kim Basinger, so things came full circle recently when People magazine asked Jeff to photographer Basinger’s daughter, Ireland Basinger Baldwin (her dad is with Alec Baldwin), for a feature in the current issue. In fact, he even got a surprise visit on set. “Kim came by to say hello,” says Jeff.

Nigel Cox photographed shoes, handbags, and jewelry for a new Bergdorf Goodman magazine: Accessorized. “The newest collections to arrive are full of vibrant color, textured accents—think second skin and translucent materials—contrasting graphics, and more of the season’s most wanted for Spring,” reads the copy.

Graphis’ Photography Annual 2013 features Craig Cutler’s photographs of a rare fin whale

In the past, Craig Cutler has photographed dinosaur bones and such at his friend Phil Fraley‘s museum exhibit fabrication company, Phil Fraley Productions. (See the “Paleontology” page at Craig’s website.) So when the Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles engaged Phil to restore its extremely rare fin whale specimen, Craig jumped at the chance to photograph it. Here’s a look at four of those images, which were featured in Graphis‘ Photography Annual 2013.

Say hi to Kwaku Alston this Sunday at the Venice Art Walk

Kwaku Alston will be welcoming visitors to his new gallery workspace in Venice Beach this Sunday as part of this year’s Venice Art Walk, where he’ll be exhibiting his collaboration with fellow artist Glen Wilson: #VENICE(UN)ENTITLED, a variety of multimedia pieces inspired by Venice.

If you’re in town, do stop by and say hello. The address is 1346 Abbot Kinney. And tickets can be purchased here. Proceeds from the Venice Art Walk and a related silent auction benefit the Venice Family Clinic.
