Matthew Rolston’s Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits will be feted tonight in Los Angeles at an exclusive event hosted by the inimitable Diane Keaton, whose enthusiasm for the project inspired her involvement in the party.

The actress, art collector, and author had received Talking Heads from a friend, was instantly smitten with Matthew’s intimate portraits of vintage ventriloquist dummies, and immediately phoned him. That conversation led to Matthew presenting her with a Talking Heads gift: a 5-foot-square print of “Uncle Eddie.” It wasn’t long before Keaton was on board to host tonight’s bash, which will be hosted at the uber-glamorous JF Chen gallery in Hollywood.

“The pictures are astonishing and spooky,” Keaton told The Hollywood Reporter this week in an article about the book party, noting that “Uncle Eddie” now hangs in her home.

Talking Heads marks Matthew’s first foray into fine art, and despite his many accomplishments as an influential photographer and director, he is not beyond experiencing butterflies when he thinks about what’s at stake.

“This is a virgin experience for me. I’m really quite nervous,” Matthew told The Wall Street Journal this week.

Keaton’s cohosts for the event are preeminent Los Angeles antiques and art dealer Joel Chen, owner of JF Chen, and renowned contemporary art collector Kay Saatchi, who will lead a casual discussion about Talking Heads with Matthew. Guests at the invitation-only event will include stars of the entertainment, design, and art worlds.

We’ll be sharing highlights from the party next week, including photos and video. In the meantime, all of us at Stockland Martel will be cheering Matthew on. We know it will be a great party and, like Diane Keaton, we too are enthusiastic supporters of this project.
