Darrelle Revis recently rejoined the New York Jets, a turn of events that Sports Illustrated explores in a cover story that finds affinities between Revis and Jets legend Joe Namath.
“I see a lot of similarities between Darrelle Revis and Joe Namath,” says senior writer Greg Bishop. “They’re both kind of the stars of the league, they’ve both made great impacts on teams, they’ve both won a Super Bowl ring. I think what Darrelle wants most is to bring a Super Bowl to the Jets, which is something that hasn’t happened since Joe was playing.”
In fact, the magazine asked Walter Iooss to re-create his iconic 1969 shot of Broadway Joe poolside with reporters in Fort Lauderdale for the story.
“Revis made it work,” Walter told the New York Post, which wrote about the photo. “Just imagine Tom Brady or Russell Wilson sitting poolside for that picture today. Not going to happen. Revis did it, though. He was great.”
