In his new photo series, “Sheriffs,” Matthias Clamer celebrates the legend of the small-town law officer

Last year, celebrity and entertainment photographer Matthias Clamer traveled through the Northwest on a mission to take portraits of county sheriffs in mostly remote areas. He spent weeks on the project, traversing the states in an old Suburban he nicknamed the Potato (because he bought it in Idaho).

“With these portraits, I hope to convey the romance I associate with the century-old institution of the small-town sheriff,” he says. “The sheriff is the good guy.”
