New work: Matthias Clamer’s portraits of eccentric comedian/musician Reggie Watts

Comedian/musician Reggie Watts has been variously described as “deliciously strange” (by The Los Angeles Times), a “comic genius” (by GQ, who featured him in its 2010 Man of the Year issue), and “spectacularly original” (by New York magazine). Which is a lot of quirk and talent to capture in a portrait. Matthias Clamer, who recently photographed Watts, came duly prepared.

“Most of the styling came from unusual sources and I was prepared for a lot of rejection, but Reggie loved all of it,” Matthias says. “He took most of it home and I’m hoping for some of these outfits to resurface at future performances.”
