“When you go shopping, it seems like it’s never enough.”

Veronica Rueckert of Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network interviewed Lauren Greenfield last week about Greenfield’s documentary kids + money, which Rueckert described as  “an unsettling look at just how deeply America had sunk into conspicuous consumption before the recent economic downturn. And it’s viewed through the eyes of some of society’s best truth tellers: kids.” Indeed, the kids in the movie say some pretty provocative things, like the young girl who observes that, “When you go shopping, it seems like it’s never enough.”

Rueckert, a producer on WPR’s Peabody Award–winning program To the Best of Our Knowledge, also took calls from listeners. You can hear the entire segment here. For more on Rueckert, plus archives of her interviews, go here. And to see a clip from kids + money, click right here.
