Hans Gissinger's cake explosion video, also on display at the exhibition. Photo by Whitney Kidder.
Hans Gissinger’s “Tartas” series opened at The Gallery @ Stockland Martel last Thursday, and we’re pretty sure it was the only show in town that centered on the concept of exploding cakes. No pastries were harmed in the making of the exhibition, although we did think about it for a while (but frosting is just so difficult to get out of the upholstery). Instead, gallerygoers noshed on miniature cupcakes from Baked by Melissa and lots of other tasty edibles. Some of Gissinger’s fellow Stockland Martel photographers—Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, Matthias Clamer, Jorg Badura, and Doug Menuez—were in attendance, and we held a drawing that resulted in a number of lucky guests taking home their very own “Tartas” prints. (For more on “Tartas,” go here).
