Slideluck Potshow comes to Canoe Studios

I confess I’ve heard of Slideluck Potshow but have never attended one of their events. And it seems I’ve really been missing out. The New York City–based nonprofit stages shows of photography and multimedia (plus DIY catering by those in attendance) all over the world. They’ll mount an exhibition pretty much anywhere, from a bar to a park. And judging from the photos of past shows, it’s a pretty cool night out.

Their next event is going to be right here in New York, from 7 to 11 pm on August 6, at Canoe Studios in the Starrett Lehigh building (601 W. 26th St., Suite 1462). And it’s got a theme: “Now.” Meaning? “As we are sure you have noticed, there is so much going on at this moment that is new, unprecedented, challenging, daunting, inspiring, aggravating, and certainly worth exploring,” they explain at their website. “Show us what is going on in today’s world: in fashion, architecture, fine art, your personal life, politics, to the planet, your community, or whatever else that speaks to right NOW.”

The Photoshelter blog has posted a Q&A with Slideluck Potshow founder Casey Kelbaugh and producer Alys Kenny that will give you a broader sense of the organization’s aims, as well as its youth initiative, which works with New York City schoolkids ages 7 to 17 to develop their natural powers of creative self-expression. Read the Q&A here.

Incidentally, tickets for these slideshows sell out quickly. You can buy yours at Slideluck Potshow’s website.
