Personal work: Craig Cutler’s “Artist Series”

Commercially, Craig Cutler is probably best known for his still lifes of ordinary, if not absolutely mundane, objects that he composes with an artist’s eye. He gives items like rubber bands and Q-tips a metaphorical importance, or at the very least a startling beauty.

In his personal work, he sometimes roams much farther afield subject-wise, as with his series “Teenagers” and, more recently, his “Artist Series.” For this body of work, Craig made portraits of different artists around the globe, including Jenny Holzer, Mark Tansey, Jeff Koons, and John Chamberlain. Here’s a selection.
