As you know, for more than a year now, Walter’s been photographing Montauk both from his bedroom window (he calls those dispatches “Room With a View”) and from various locations near his home there to post here at the Stockland Martel blog—photos that I’ve archived in a category called “Walter Iooss’ Montauk.” This weekend, I received his final dispatch of the season, along with this note:
“hi. the blizzard of 2010, 12/26/10. i am heading south to key biscayne, fl, till 5/1/11. the window to the beauty of montauk will be shut, along with the curtains in ‘room with a view.’ till then, stay tuned. cheers, walter.”

My goodness. Can we just say outright — Walter, it would seem, is living a dream life. Key Biscayne until May, then back to paradise on Long Island, and in the meantime shooting a dream assignment — or two?
And!!! Represented by SM!!!
it’s not fair, mr iooss.
Whether he’s shooting sports or nature, Iooss’s photos continue to inspire. I just got a chance to see his ‘Athlete’ exhibit at the Newseum in Washington, DC, and it was breathtaking. The exhibit is only open for a few more days so if you have a chance do not hesitate to go!
He has closed his window or house or room but not everybody’s view. I always thought nature was there for all. Is this photographer really arrogant or something? Why does he show his dog and his porch? Strange choices.
