Kai Uwe Gundlach, one of Germany’s best-known advertising and editorial photographers, first made his name with his stylish automotive photography and is now just as highly regarded for his landscapes, cityscapes, and portrait work. His photographs, at once polished and unusual, are the product of his restless creativity. Kai is forever searching out ways to make his images stand out from the ordinary and the expected.
Working closely with his personal retoucher, he adds “some little things…that make the photo more interesting,” as he once told The FStop magazine. Often, these “little things” are color related. “Fifty percent is shooting the photo, and fifty percent is how to turn the color in the post-production,” explains Kai, whose work has been honored by the AOP, the European Architectural Photography Prize, and the New York Photo Festival Awards, among others.
