Details and Town & Country to roll out redesigns (updated)

The March issue of Details magazine makes its debut February 15.

.

Details and Town & Country will both be unveiling a new look with their March issues, reports Women’s Wear Daily, and their approaches to photography are part of what’s changing. Details, which is adding health and fitness to its editorial focus, is featuring a trio of models on its March cover, a marked departure from its celebrity-driven cover formula.

“We wanted a cover that would really resonate and look a little different than the norm,” editor in chief Dan Peres told WWD‘s David Lipke. “Model covers are so rarely done—largely because they’re not a very popular newsstand driver, I’m not blind to that—however I actually believe this will be one of our better selling issues of the year.”

The March issue will include a new section called The Body, with stories about working out and eating right. The magazine has also added a design director: Nathalie Kirsheh.

Meanwhile, Town & Country is unbuttoning itself a bit with a redesign that, as Zeke Turner of WWD puts it, “brings a healthy dose of sex to the magazine.”

“Goodbye, Ina Garten and Nora Ephron. Hello, Lauren Santo Domingo, sans bottom, kicking her feet up in an armchair,” Turner writes of the March issue, the first under new creative director David Lipman. “There are many ways to be rich these days,” editor in chief Stephen Drucker told WWD. “We just wanted to make it feel modern and a little sexier.” (Drucker’s last issue will be April, and then Jay Fielden takes the reins.)

Our own Nino Munoz shot a feature for the new Town & Country, and it definitely doesn’t sound stodgy: A “soaking wet model without a stitch of clothing on” is adorned in $73million worth of diamonds. ” Reports Turner, “Twenty-three security guards were on hand at the shoot.”

Is it March yet?

It seems that a lot of people in the fashion industry are out of touch. I know for a fact that a beautifully styled model can sell any magazine on the market. We are tired of all of the celebrity covers, we want to see the models.
