The winners and finalists for this year’s International Photo Awards were announced yesterday, and I’ll admit I had a chuckle when I read that the assessing process was a bit of a white-knuckled ride for the jurors. “We have just barely met the deadline of the 18th to announce to you the winners and finalists for the 2009 IPA competition,” it says at the IPA website. Deadlines and the dead of summer sometimes just don’t go together, and I say that with great empathy. Trust me.
A number of Stockland Martel’s photographers are among those whose work was chosen by the panel of judges—a panel that included gallerists Yossi Milo, Jen Bekman, Bonni Benrubi and ad-industry figures like Jigisha Bouverat (TBWA/Chiat/Day), Cindy Rivet (Ogilvy & Mather), and Nicole Lloyd (Deutsch). There’s a complete gallery of IPA winners and finalists here. Those who received honorable mentions—including Jorg Badura and Doug Menuez—are, unfortunately not represented there.
Meanwhile, here’s our gallery of the photographers we’re partial to, for obvious reasons:
