The November issue of Prevention magazine, featuring Kwaku Alston’s cover portrait of Michelle Obama, has just hit newsstands. And the blogosphere is already buzzing.
Kwaku’s photograph highlights the First Lady’s strength, warmth, and beauty yet feels wholly natural, as if he were photographing a friend. The accompanying story is apparently pretty juicy too: Mrs. Obama reveals that she eats burgers, fries, and pie without a scrap of neurosis. (Seriously, in our culture, that’s headline news.)
Some of the places I’ve spotted Kwaku’s Michelle Obama:
Entertainment Tonight‘s website. “Mrs. Obama credits her mother for teaching her to balance the many facets of her busy life. She said, ‘She’d say being a good mother isn’t all about sacrificing; it’s really investing and putting yourself higher on your priority list.’”
A fashion blog called Mrs. O, which is dedicated to “what and whom she is wearing”: “We have to say, this may be one of the best Mrs. O covers ever! We love the natural outdoor setting, and Mrs. O looks beyond fabulous.”
Coco Perez’s celebrity blog: “We’re not sure how Prevention Magazine swung this, but somehow they got Michelle Obama to be the cover girl on their November Issue.”
USA Today‘s blog also picked it up, though they seem to have credited Kwaku with writing the story, not taking the picture. (Sigh.)
But that’s better than People’s site, which listed no photo credit at all. (Double sigh.)

You could always email People’s website author to update the photo credit, since they did credit the magazine. Credits are an endless issue!
Hi, Neil. Thanks for the suggestion. By the way, I enjoyed Louisa Curtis’ photo-reps panel discussion last night. I’d been curious about Wonderful Machine. Was good to learn more about you guys. —Kristina
