The view from Walter Iooss' window, Montauk.

….
You’ll find Montauk at the end of the South Fork of Long Island. To the north is the Block Island Sound, and to the south is the Atlantic. Unlike the nearby-ish Hamptons, it is not a fashionable place. Episodes of Sex & the City were not based there. But it is a mecca for surfers as well as for all who appreciate natural beauty that has been (mostly) unmarred by commerce. Walter Iooss has had a place in Montauk, which he calls “the most interesting spot in all of Long Island,” for more than 30 years. He bought his first house there in 1977, and he and his wife now spend about half the year in a home that has spectacular views. “We sit in 130 acres of nature preserve on the coast,” says Walter. “It’s still got a raw edge to it. There’s a lot of open spaces.”
Walter’s been photographing the geography near his house for years, and he’s been sending me some of his photos. He took the pair you see here from his windows. I’ll post more as I get them.
