U.K.-based home-furnishings retailer Habitat—which is sort of like a Design Within Reach/Bo Concept/Room and Board, and I wish we had one here—is venturing into the art market with a new book of prints specifically designed for displaying on your wall. Titled 50×70, after the standard (in the U.K.) frame size of 50 x 70 cm, the book has been published in a limited edition of 4,000 and features 20 prints by a group of hand-picked artists, including Shepard Fairey and our own John Offenbach.

“The idea behind the book is to give people the chance to own beautiful, limited edition artwork by established and up-and-coming artists and then be able to put it straight into a 50cm x 70cm frame,” Tim Fishlock, editor, designer and curator of the project, told Creative Review.

The full list of artists: Adrian Johnson, Merijn Hos, Aaron Johnson, John Offenbach, Basso & Brooke, FLAG, Sroop Sunar, Julian House, Kevin Cummins, Stephan Zirwes, Alex Trochut, Jorge Chamorro, Shepard Fairey , Patrick Hughes, Tim Fishlock, Denis Darzacq, Zeloot, :phunk, Tsang Kin-Wah, Anthony Burrill.

“The graphic/illustration pieces are printed on Challenger Offset while the photography prints are printed on Marazion—both 140gsm,” Fishlock explained. “Print process is litho. The book is stitched and cloth-bound with a 400gsm cover. The perforation is graduated throughout the book to ensure the prints are easy enough to remove—this was the trickiest thing to get right.”

The book is for available for purchase only through Habitat, but as of this morning, it’s sold out. You can preview it, though, at 50×70′s website, and Habitat has started a wish list for those still hoping to get their own copy. Perhaps a second printing is imminent.
