Seven photographers take on “betweenness” in new exhibition

Since its inception, photography has been the subject of intense debate: Is it an objective record of reality, an interpretation, a manufactured representation, or some combination of all of these?

An exhibition opening tomorrow in Luxembourg considers this question, as well as the subject of transience. And it does so through seven very different imagemakers:

..

Justine Blau
..

Gast Bouschet & Nadine Hilbert

Jim Goldberg
..

Nadav Kander

Eugene Richards
..

Roger Wagner
..

Each in their highly individual ways, these photographers will explore the theme of “betweenness”—”the transient nature of things, migrations, dualities, confluence, yet also the intrinsic paradox of photography itself in terms of its positioning in a world between reality and construction,” as the press release explains.

The show will be on view at the Centre national de l’audiovisuel from December 17 through February 28. There doesn’t seem to be an English version of the site, but you can download a PDf of the press release here (ECOTONE), which describes each artist’s contribution in greater detail.
