“New York” mag names new photo director

New York magazine has chosen a new photography director, reports The New York Observer: Jennifer Miller, the photography director of Cosmopolitan since 2009.

Miller replaces Jody Quon, New York‘s photo director since 2004 and since April the creative director of W. Quon, who’d previously spent 10 years at The New York Times Magazine, set the bar high in her six years at New York. Her department racked up a 2008 World Press Photo award; Pictures of the Year International Awards in 2005, 2009, and 2010; and awards from American Photography and Photo District News. New York was also a National Magazine Award finalist for photojournalism and photo portfolio in 2010 and for photography in 2005, 2006, and 2008.

In a press release announcing Miller’s hire, New York editor in chief Adam Moss noted that her background is “gloriously eclectic; she brings experience navigating all points on the art/commerce continuum.”

Miller was also the photo director at Jane magazine for seven years, at George for three years, and at the art and culture magazine Tar for one year. “Additionally,” according to the press release, “Miller has worked at Magnum Photos, produced a look book for Rag & Bone, and taught photography at Parsons.”
