Walter Iooss’ Montauk: one from the archives and one from Saturday

In 1998, Ray Charles was one of the performers at the Back to the Ranch benefit concert, held in Montauk’s Theodore Roosevelt County Park. The concert series, which was staged at Deep Hollow Ranch—thought to be the oldest cattle ranch in the nation and the birthplace of the American cowboy—was an annual fixture during the 1990s and would draw thousands of people.
