New work: John Midgley and “The Artisans” for Men’s Journal

For its annual Style & Design September issue, Men’s Journal commissioned John to photograph “The Artisans,” a feature on six New York–based craftsmen who make their products by hand. The artisans are Palo Samko, a woodworker; Frenel Morris, a milliner; Francesco Bertelli, a bike maker; the Mast Brothers, chocolatiers; and Marcell Mrsan, a shoe maker.

John shot the portraits over two days at a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Let’s have a look…
