David Drebin featured in PDN’s new “How I Got That Shot” column and at Art Toronto

The latest issue of PDN introduces a new column called “How I Got That Shot,” which explores “what it took to create recent photos that caught our eye.” The four-page feature opens with a photo that David Drebin took for Italian watchmaker Breil…

David, who worked with art director Vincenzo Gasbarro at United in Milan, explained in the article that the client wanted “people hugging and kissing everywhere.” He shot the image with a Hasselblad with a P40 back and 100mm lens in lower Manhattan.

David noted that he did as much in camera as possible, with the exception of the watch, the window frame, and the couple at the every end (in their case, he said, the lights wouldn’t reach, so he had to shoot them separately). “I love being a photographer,” he said, “and I’m not a digital illustrator.”

Look for “How I Got That Shot” in the November issue of PDN, which just hit newsstands.

Meanwhile, on a fine-art note, David’s work is being featured this weekend as part of Art Toronto 2010, the 11th Toronto International Art Fair. More than a hundred galleries from 13 different countries are participating in this year’s event, including Montreal-based Galerie de Bellefeuille, one of a number of galleries worldwide that represent David.
