The new Prix Pictet book.
Have you checked out the shortlist for next year’s Prix Pictet? The theme is “Growth,” which, notes the Prix Pictet site, “has proved to be a rich source of inspiration to the artists and nominators of the third cycle of the Prix Pictet. Over 450 nominated artists submitted many outstanding images that communicated powerful messages about the devastating impact of unsustainable human enterprise.” A selection of these images has been collected in the book Growth, published this month by teNeues.
Meanwhile, in Paris last month, it was announced that the panel—which included Nadav Kander, the 2010 Prix Pictet winner—named the following photographers to the prize’s shortlist. The winner will be announced in March. Is it me, or do many of these images seem more pretty than potent? Or is their beauty necessary in order to get people’s attention and truly be effective as agents of awareness and change? I’ll let you judge for yourselves…
