Surfers Healing, which hosts surfing camps for autistic children, held its 12th annual Surfers Healing Autism Pat Notaro Day on June 2 at Malibu Surfrider Beach. “The event, hosted by Variety the Children’s Charity, successfully kicked off summer with 200 autistic children enjoying a fun day in the water with family and friends,” reports surfline.com.

Photographer/director Steven Lippman was among the surfers donating their time, taking kids out to ride the waves. He also directed the short film below, which the captures the feel and purpose of that day…

From a parent who has a child with Autism/Asperger’s and loves the water, this was so heartwarming and wonderful to sea (pun intended)! My children learned to ride bicycles through a similar program and it was very liberating for them. It helps them integrate into the social framework of life if they can ride a bike or ride a wave and it helps build confidence. It does so many amazing things for these kids and individuals. One can never say thank you enough to the people who give of themselves to help these kids. Thank you Steve Lippman for a truly moving video. You have a big heart! Thank you, thank you.
