The Darkness by Matthias Clamer

Matthias Clamer recently photographed the Darkness—who just released their new album, Hot Cakes—in New Orleans, where the glam-rock band was in town to play a gig.

“We shot in the French Quarter a few hours before their show. I hired a horse-drawn carriage because I thought it suits them,” says Matthias, who last photographed the Darkness eight years ago, around the time that they were riding high with the success of their debut album, Permission to Land, which spawned hits like “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.”

“I rented instruments from a local music store but ended up also asking jazz musicians on the street to lend us their instruments. Some of the musicians assumed the role of traffic coordinator.”
