Thank you to everyone who came out to Avant/Garde Diaries on Wednesday for the opening-night reception for Erik Madigan Heck‘s “Seven Film Works.” The event was a smashing success, and the response to Erik’s films—projected on plexiglass placed in the venue’s windows, so that they could also be viewed from the street—was resoundingly enthusiastic.
“To see one of Heck’s photographs is to witness a holistic universe, as any one image may comprise of analog photography fused with digital images, surrealist sets painted by his own hand, and layers of meaning that rarely surface at first glance. His films are no less profound,” writes Dan Thawley in Interview.

Among the “Seven” films is The End, a dreamlike short feature that Erik created as a gift to designer Ann Demeulemeester, his friend and collaborator. Watch it below, or stop by Avant/Garde Diaries in Soho (they’re at 372 Broome Street, at Mott), where “Seven Film Works” will be on view till September 12.
