Many congratulations to Erik Madigan Heck, who has just been named the winner of the 2013 ICP Infinity Award in the Applied/Fashion/Advertising category.
He is in superlative company: Past Infinity Award winners in the Applied Photography category include Herb Ritts, Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz, Sarah Moon, Craig McDean, Steven Meisel, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, David LaChapelle, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.
This year’s selection committee included curator and writer Susan Bright; Douglas Nickel, the Andrea V. Rosenthal Professor of Modern Art, History of Art and Architecture at Brown University; and Ramón Reverté, editor in chief and creative director of Editorial RM in Mexico and Barcelona.
The nominators included Isolde Brielmaier, chief curator of the Savannah College of Art and Design Museum of Art in Georgia; Brazil-based publisher Frank Kalero; Paul Lowe, course director of MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication; Marloes Krijnen, founding director of FOAM in Amsterdam; Michele McNally, assistant managing editor for photography at The New York Times; Paul Moakley, photo editor at Time magazine; Akio Nagasawa, director of BLD Gallery/Akio Nagasawa Publishing in Tokyo; Carol Squiers, curator at ICP; and Buenos Aries–based photographer Facundo de Zuviria.
Erik will be presented with his award at the 29th Annual Infinity Awards gala on May 1 in New York City. He will be joined by his fellow top honorees: David Goldblatt, winner of the Lifetime Achievement award; Young Photographer winner Kitra Cahana; Mishka Henner, winner in the Art category; Cristina de Middel, whose The Afronauts won in the Publication category; and Photojournalism winner David Guttenfelder.
