Dwight Jr., his son, has also played in the majors, most recently in 2020 with Baltimore. The older Smith hit 252 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 103 games as a pinch hitter with the Braves in 1995.

Smith made three pinch-hit appearances for Atlanta during their six-game World Series victory against Cleveland. At the plate, he was 1-for-2 with a walk. The Braves released a statement calling Smith “a vital part” of their championship club.
