Surfing self-portraits by Steven Lippman

Steven Lippman, who regularly documents his and his friends’ surfing experiences in Malibu, has been turning the camera on himself at key moments while riding the waves. Below are four self-portraits he took using a GoPro Hero camera.

“In this series of images, I’m shooting myself with my GoPro attached to my right arm,” Steven explains. “The camera is secured with GoPpro’s wrist housing, allowing me to pull in the tube, throw my arm way back—up and high—and create these unique angles. The GoPro Hero has pushed me to new dimensions of composition.”

“GoPro is donating two sets of cameras to be raffled off at my exhibition, ‘Moments’,” says Steven. “And 100 percent of the proceeds from the raffle will go to A Walk on Water, which provides water therapy through guided surf instruction to special-needs children. Surfing is used as a tool to gain self-confidence skills and promote the therapeutic benefits of the sport’s positive effects.”
