Slagging your clients publicly is something you just don’t do in this economy (or in any economy, really) if you ever want to work again.
But that doesn’t mean photographers have no means of venting their vexation at dealing with unreasonable demands or clueless editors. They can always make a satirical movie and put it on YouTube. Like MrStewBoy’s “Editor vs. Photographer,” which Bill sent my way yesterday.
Excerpt:
Photographer: “What’s the rate?”
Editor: “Oh, we don’t pay anymore. You will get credit in the magazine and major advertisers will see you and book you for big jobs.”
Photographer: “Seriously, what big advertisers read the Walnut Creek Gazette?”
The voices are computer generated, giving the whole sad-but-true scenario an extra-hilarious note of absurdity.
