“As Alfred is to Bruce Wayne, Ricky to Lucy, or Sancho Panza to Don Quixote, so is the first assistant to the photographer,” writes Spencer Winans in his introduction to “Photographers and Assistants,” an excellent photo essay in the winter issue of Resource magazine.
For the feature, Resource asked each photographer/assistant pair to take a portrait of one another. Our own Jorg Badura and his first assistant, Don Razniewski, are among those featured. Here are their portraits, which they took while on location in Hawaii:
