Tonight: Matthew Rolston, “Love/Lust,” and “The Bikini”

.

Matthew Rolston will be offering snappy fashion commentary on tonight’s episode of Love/Lust, a new series on the Sundance Channel that “takes everyday items of desire and deconstructs them to unpack the historical, social and pop culture events that made them the icons they are today,” according to the program’s official description. Think of it as being like that Food Network show Unwrapped, only with zero calories.

This evening’s item of desire? The bikini. From the Love/Lust page at sundancechannel.com: “It’s far more than a felicitous combination of a few triangles of fabric and some string. Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot … choose your weapon.”

Matthew also appears in next week’s episode, “Heels,” which airs on Tuesday, February 22, at 10 PM EST. Among the other fashion personalities and experts in this seven-part series, launched by Sundance in honor of spring Fashion Week, are fashion journalist Lynn Yeager; Joe Zee, creative director of Elle; Simon Doonan, creative ambassador at large for Barneys; and designers Manolo Blahnik, Vera Wang, and Norma Kamali.

Sundance has posted clips featuring some of the above, including one in which Matthew talks about professional trust. Here’s a quote: “You can’t learn from your successes. You can enjoy them, but you really only learn from your failures. And you have to listen hard to people’s criticism, without contradicting it. Because that’s the only way you’re ever going to learn as a creative person.” Click here to watch the video.

Love/Lust airs tonight at 10 EST on the Sundance Channel, with an encore presentation at midnight.
