Guest post: Steven Lippman and the day legends came together

Before he became a pro photographer and director, Steven Lippman was a pro skateboarder in the days when skating was becoming the cultural phenomenon that it remains to this day. He recently reunited with his old pals, who happen to be some of the biggest names in the history of skateboarding—guys like Lance Mountain, Christian Hosoi, David Hackett, Jay Adams, and Brad Bowman.

Here’s Steven’s guest post:

.
Last Friday, I got the call that the boys were all meeting for a skate session. I dropped everything, grabbed my family, skateboard, and camera, and headed to the pool.

I grew up skating pro with all these guys back in the late ’70s. We were all on the scene. Skateboarding molded the future of style, music, and who I am today.

It had been almost 30 years since we all skated together, so this was a moment in time that I was not going to miss. Anybody who knows what skateboarding is will understand that this was a great day to remember.

Here are some photos from that epic day.

Steven captured this shot of Brad Bowman cutting David Hackett's hair "as Lance Mountain blasts a front side for approval. Brad is an amazing hairstylist. We have worked together many times."

Jay Adams, one of the original z-boys, got there late. The sun was going down, but he got a few runs in. Here, he does front side grind as a grom (skateboarder under the age of 12) dreams on. Photo by Steven Lippman.
