Hans Gissinger, edible bugs, and The New Yorker

The current issue of The New Yorker features a story by Dana Goodyear on the subject of eating bugs.”Ounce for ounce,” writes Goodyear, “many have the same amount of protein as beef—fried grasshoppers have three times as much—and are rich in micronutrients like iron and zinc.” Who knew?

The piece, titled—what else—”Grub” is illustrated by two photos by Hans Gissinger, styled by Victoria Granof. “While you’re reading the story, check out the photo (grasshopper, raspberry) by Hans Gissinger, a glorious photographer who has lately been gracing the pages of the magazine and whose photos you can also see on the walls of Mark Gold’s restaurant Eva,” writes Amy Scattergood in a column posted yesterday at LA Weekly‘s website. “Even more of Gissinger’s stunning photos line the walls now, since Gold recently remodeled the place.”

Here’s a look at Hans’ New Yorker photos, which Rob Haggart’s A Photo Editor featured in “The Daily Edit” today. And here’s a link to Eva that offers a glimpse of the restaurant’s interior and Hans’ photos: evarestaurantla.com.
