Liz Von Hoene recently photographed an exclusive online editorial for Schön! magazine that takes place in a dreamy countryside setting, with fashion by Diesel, Paul Smith, Preen, and others and styling by her longtime friend Gus Romero, who kindly shared with us a little background on the project.
“Liz has been my friend for 18 years now!!!” Gus marvels. “We have worked together since the very beginning of our careers, and Liz has always been a source of inspiration because of her creativity and tenacity.
“At the same time,” he says, “working with Liz is playing.”
Gus and Liz have shot some amazing editorials over the years, and he was keen to collaborate on a new project with her. As luck would have it, Schön offered to give him some pages in their new issue, so Gus called Liz to brainstorm.
“We were both excited immediately,” he recalls. “We talked about a sweet, magical, and nostalgic representation of a traveling band—a subtle touch of the magic of Alice in Wonderland, plus the carefree spirit of young musicians.”
He and Liz wanted to “keep it in the family,” so they enlisted Gus’ makeup-artist friend Paco Blancas and the talented hairdresser John Ruidant to work with them. Meghan McNeer, Liz’s righthand woman, was also on hand to make sure everything went smoothly.
