Entertainment Weekly asked Art Streiber to photograph the cast of the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster Terminator: Genisys, the fifth installment in the Terminator series, for a dual-cover feature. Besides awesome cover photos, Art needed to get great portraits of each of the movie’s four stars, plus shoot a group portrait for the opener. He had an hour to pull it off in a shoot scheduled during the movie’s last day of production.
“The movie was ending its shooting schedule in Northern California, so our base camp became a hangar at the tiny San Carlos Airport, sandwiched between the Bayshore Highway and the San Francisco Bay,” he explains. “The tarmac at San Carlos provided an infinite horizon as the perfect backdrop, against which we photographed Matt Smith, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and…the world-famous Terminator endoskeleton.
“Over the course of the hour that we had with the cast,” he continues, “we shot singles of all four of the actors, two duet covers, and a few variations of four-shots. Amusingly, in this reboot of one of America’s greatest sci-fi franchises, none of the cast are American; Smith and Emilia Clarke are English, while Courtney and Jason Clarke are Australian.”
