Phillips De Pury’s photographs auction April 1 set a new benchmark for David Drebin, whose print “Movie Star” sold for $16,250—a princely sum, especially given the economic downturn. The 48 x 60 photo, which was originally available from Guy Hepner Contemporary in Los Angeles in an edition of seven, was featured on the cover of the auction catalog, no doubt fueling interest. This important sale is further proof that Drebin’s star in the fine-art world is on the rise. The entertainment world has already taken note, with celebrity collectors of his work including Elton John and Ben Stiller. Select images from Drebin’s portfolio “Love and Other Stories” are still available through Guy Hepner. To see “Movie Star,” go here.
