Timothy White has been photographing Queen Latifah for years. She’s in his 2001 monograph Portraits, he shot the poster for her 2003 movie Bringing Down the House, which costarred Steve Martin, and he recently photographed her for the cover of the July issue of Essence. So Timothy was a natural choice to shoot the ad campaign for Queen by Queen Latifah, the award-winning actress/ singer/Cover Girl spokesperson’s first foray into the fragrance market. “Advertising, shot in February by Timothy White in Miami, features a regal-looking Queen Latifah standing in a grand parlor room, donning a red dress by Ramona Keveza,” reports WWD.
Latifah, who was nominated for a 2002 Academy Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in the musical Chicago, is issuing the perfume through Parlux Fragrances. “She’s an unbelievable talent, and there’s really no putting her in a box,” Neil Katz, chairman and chief executive officer of Parlux Fragrances Inc., told WWD. “She’s a huge celebrity in that she moves from one area to another with great comfort. She’s different from the rest in that she’s middle-aged. She’s both urban and not urban. She really crosses lines.”
