Macy’s spotlights fashion photographer Liz Von Hoene

When she’s shooting an ad campaign for longtime client Macy’s, Liz Von Hoene immerses herself in their world and channels the “Macy’s magic.” But recently, Macy’s turned the tables and decided to showcase Liz’s world.

In the interview “Spotlight On: Fashion Photographer Liz Von Hoene,” at Macy’s mBLOG, Liz talks about a recent shoot for Macy’s—for the summer American Icons campaign shot in California’s Superior Salt Flats—and reflects on her inspirations and favorite locations, as well as what makes a great fashion photographer.

She also reveals her own favorite American icon: Maya Angelou.

“I have always been inspired by Maya Angelou, her words, and the way she lived her life,” Liz says. “Her passing recently reminded me of what a strong, elegant, and influential woman she was for not only our time, but will be for generations to come! She was a mother, a writer, a dancer, a trailblazer, a political advisor, and gave a voice to many who could not be heard. One of my favorite quotes of hers is, ‘I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels.’”
