Stockland Martel is proud to announce that it is now the exclusive sales agent for Menuez Archive Projects (MAP, menuezarchiveprojects.com), the boutique stock site launched in February by award-winning photographer Doug Menuez. With the exception of Europe, Stockland Martel will be handling sales for MAP worldwide, a partnership that combines the personalized service that you’ve come to expect from Stockland Martel over the past 25 years with the specialized approach to stock photos on which MAP was founded.
“People know they’re going to get the highest-quality service from Stockland Martel,” notes Doug, who is represented by Stockland Martel for commercial and editorial work. “So it’s a wonderful thing for us at MAP because art buyers and art directors can send layouts to the reps at Stockland Martel, and our team here will support the Stockland Martel team, creating custom searches based on the client’s needs.”
Doug built MAP from the ground up, painstakingly reviewing his personal archives from the past 30 years—boxes of film “as far as the eye can see,” he says, only half-joking—in order to assemble the best selection for his stock site. MAP’s offerings are diverse, but all of the photos bear his signature storytelling style. There’s a truth and compassion to the images that reflect Doug’s many years as a photojournalist.
He also took care to choose a scanning partner that would honor the hard work that went into these photos. “National Geographic is our scanning partner,” he says. “They’re doing incredible scans—they’re like the Rolls Royce of scanning.”

The MAP website currently houses some 5,000 photos, including new projects that he shot specifically for the stock site. (A selection of MAP images is also now on view at Stockland Martel Archives.) Doug is planning to add another 3,000 images to MAP in the next few months, but even that will be just a fraction of the 1 million images he has had professionally edited, retouched, and keyworded for MAP.
“We have such a vast archive,” he says. “Although we’ve set up the site to be user-friendly and efficient with automated search, we’d almost rather collaborate with our clients. We’ve got a great team of top-notch photo editors at the ready, like Karen Mullarkey, who was the senior picture editor at Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and Sports Illustrated, and Lindsey Nicholson, who has 25 years’ experience in the stock-photo industry.” (To get a sense of their perspectives, check out Karen’s curated selection of photos on the theme of “Love” and Lindsey’s selection called “Connect, Relate, Intertwine.”)
“We put a lot of thought into what we wanted MAP to be and what clients needed from a stock site, and we invested close to $1 million to plan and build it right,” he continues. “It wasn’t easy, and I can see now why more photographers haven’t attempted to establish their own stock sites. But it’s pretty exciting to know that online or offline, we’re set up to work with creatives on just about any kind of project they can throw at us.”
