Our offices will be closed until Tuesday, January 3. Until then, here’s a look at Stockland Martel‘s year in pictures. And what a year it was—from Art Streiber‘s portraits of Justin Bieber, to a living room whose entire contents have been duct taped (thank you, Craig Cutler!), veteran sports shooter Walter Iooss showing off his sense of humor with Andy Samberg as tennis pros Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, and Hans Gissinger‘s pastel-colored food portrait of an insect-topped pastry (dessert, anyone?).

Happy holiday break, everyone! We’ll see you in 2012!

Steven Lippman was in the Bahamas last month to shoot an ad campaign and took these photos on the flight back to Los Angeles, from 36,000 feet above the ocean. Details on the ads he was shooting as soon as they’re ready for prime time…

Nadav Kander: “Just the right amount of wrong”

For a new campaign for the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Fallon came up with a tagline that perfectly encapsulates the hotel’s swanky combination of hipness and decadence: “Just the right amount of wrong.” Then they commissioned a photographer who could visually express the campaign’s promise of an outlandishly—and stylishly—good time. Specifically, Nadav Kander, who worked with Fallon art director Christy Peacock, copywriter Leon Wilson, and art buyer Jason Hall.

Here’s a look at two images from the campaign for Cosmopolitan—which made Condé Nast Traveler’s 2011 “Hot List” for top new hotels—plus some highlights of Nadav’s advertising photography, including campaigns for Hyundai, Cruzan rum, Absolut, Orbit, Nike, Farmers insurance, and Powerade.

25 vintage tennis shots by Walter Iooss

The U.S. Open started yesterday, inspiring Walter Iooss to pull together a selection of his tennis photos from the 1970s and ’80s. It’s especially fun to look at these images knowing that Andy Samberg impersonated some of these athletes for the New York Times Magazine cover story that Walter shot for Kathy Ryan, the magazine’s director of photography, and Stacey Baker, the associate photo editor.

“The great idea for the story came from the New York Times,” Walter tells me. “We shot at Pier 59. Andy [Samberg] made our life easy, as he was such a good actor and athlete. He did his homework and literally morphed into the players. Hair and makeup was from Saturday Night Live, and Susan Winget was our stylist. Every person involved in the shoot made it better. I have never had a job like this before. I love the cover.”
