Nadav’s work has been exhibited all over the world, but this may be the first time it’s being shown in such a gleefully unconventional fashion. The nonprofit Montreal-based organization Make Art Public, or MAP, is showing his photos as part of its ambitious “Life Is an Extreme Sport!” event in Montreal. In keeping with MAP’s principles (more on that later), the exhibition will make use of empty outdoor advertising space as opposed to a traditional gallery. (Does that mean there will be no free wine at the opening?)
A group show, “Extreme Sport!” will feature more than 30 works by six photographers: Nadav, Lynne Cohen, Li Wei, Alana Riley, Olaf Breuning, and Denis Darzacq. “This urban exhibition was conceived around pieces that express the new realities that make life seem like an extreme sport,” MAP explains in a blog post about the show. The photos will also be exposed onto 10 new permanent structures installed at the Parc Émilie-Gamelin, Montreal’s city square. The show kicked off on November 3 and will be slowly spreading throughout the city. There’s an interactive map that indicates where the works will be shown. More on MAP: Their organizing principle is to utilize unused outdoor advertising space to exhibit artwork, with the mission not just of showing off the art but of promoting creativity in general. “We employ methods used by advertising agencies,” they explain. “One of our main goals is to cut-through social barriers in order to create bonds and emphasize commonality amongst differing workforces. We are the no cost alternative to museums and art galleries and we are open to the public seven days a week, twenty four hours a day.” For even more, check out their website.
