The Serpentine Galleries are currently celebrating the 15th anniversary of their pavilion commission, whereby some of the world’s greatest architects design and build a temporary structure for the Serpentine’s lawn in London’s Kensington Gardens. Zahad Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Jean Nouvel, and Frank Gehry are among the greats who have designed a Serpentine Pavilion, and the installation is one of the top-10 most-visited architectural and design destinations in the world, according to the Serpentine Galleries.
This year’s pavilion is a particularly fanciful cocoon-like creation designed by Spanish architects SelgasCano, who were inspired variously by London’s Underground, the need to connect to nature and the landscape, and “change, surprise, color, and materials.” (Read more about the 2015 Serpentine Pavilion here.)
