Makeup artist Jane Choi works on startling New York mag cover

The cover of the October 3 issue of New York magazine is, well, startling: a 50-something nude woman holding her pregnant belly à la Demi Moore on the cover of the August 1991 issue of Vanity Fair, with the coverline, “Is She Just Too Old for This?” Hair and makeup for the New York photo illustration, which was created by Darrow, is by Stockland Martel makeup artist/hair stylist Jane Choi. (You can read the feature, “Parents of a Certain Age,” here.)

I wonder why they chose a woman much older than 50 for this portait. I guess trying to exaggerate the point. This woman looks closer to 65 than 50.

Meant to mention it was Annie Liebowitz photograph that they were recreating weren’t they? Surprised you didn’t mention that being photo rep agency.

Hi, Miller. Thanks for your comments.

Our post does indeed acknowledge the photo that inspired the New York mag cover: I linked to a post about the Demi Moore portrait, which was shot by Annie Leibovitz.
