In its latest issue, Billboard profiles Rod Stewart, who has a new album coming out today. Below, Art Streiber talks about photographing the forever-young rock star for the story in Beverly Hills…

.

“Rod Stewart is an iconic rock-and-roller.  He is also a gracious host and a wonderfully participatory subject.

We photographed Rod at his home in Beverly Hills, and while the inside photo was shot in his library, the cover image was captured against a piece of foam core in his garage…just feet away from a few very pricey automobiles.

The editor in chief of Billboard had the idea of having Rod hold an old picture of himself, and we found the ideal image in his bar, already perfectly framed.

Rod was facing me, and I asked him to turn his head in profile to match the old black-and-white image.  His wife, Penny—who is stunning, a gracious hostess, and a great photographer—saw a pair of Ray-Bans sitting near our monitor that belonged to our intern, Madison, and asked if she could put them on Rod. Madison enthusiastically said yes, and the sunglasses gave my image the perfect echo of the original.

And the best part about working with Rod Stewart? He is self styling and self grooming! Rod asked me what kind of look I was going for, and he showed up for each setup impeccably dressed! And he nailed it every time!”
