Jim Fiscus shoots trading-card-style portraits of Georgia’s fierce Classic City Rollergirls

If you’ve ever seen a women’s roller derby in person, you know there’s a lot of wit, grit, and might involved in putting on an awesome show—not to mention punny, pugilistic rollergirl names like Human Missile Crisis and Honey Boom Boom.

But the women of Classic City Rollergirls in Athens, Georgia, raise the stakes even further with community service and volunteering. They’ve raised money for AIDS Athens; Camp Kasem UGA, a camp for kids whose parents are affected by cancer; Athens Canine Rescue; and the Cottage Sexual Assault Crisis Center, among others.

So when they asked photographer Jim Fiscus, who’s based in Athens, to shoot their portraits, he readily donated his time to their cause. Jim’s photos of the women of CCRG were designed as trading cards that the team sold—and promptly sold out of. Below, four of Jim’s favorite portraits from the series…
