Tobias Hutzler photographs Japanese architectural firm SANAA’s stunning River building for Fast Company

The River building—home to Grace Community Church and the not-for-profit Grace Farms Foundation—is an 83,000-square-foot, 1,400-foot-long structure dreamed up by Japanese architectural firm SANAA. Set on a nature preserve in New Canaan, Connecticut, it boasts a winding shape inspired by the shape of a flowing river.

For its new issue, Fast Company asked Tobias Hutzler to find a way to photograph the River building that did justice to its innovative design. “I photographed it so that the landscape and architecture melted together,” he explains. “Building and surroundings become one, like a river, as envisioned in the architects’ concept.”
