A Walk on Water, which provides free surf instruction to special-needs kids—or athletes, as the nonprofit prefers to call them—and their families, is hosting a surf therapy event at Surfrider Beach in Malibu, California, on April 22, from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. The event is sponsored by Paul Mitchell and hosted by the Surfrider Malibu hotel.
“The goal of surf therapy is for the athletes to feel the thrill and confidence that only ‘a walk on water’ can provide. Their families are fully supported and cared for as they share a much-deserved day of fun, relaxation, and respite,” explains the AWOW website.
Steven Lippman, who is president of A Walk on Water, will be among the surfers volunteering their time taking kids surfing. Past AWOW surf therapy events have drawn the participation of pro surfers like Courtney Conlogue, whom Steven photographed for ESPN The Magazine‘s 2016 Body Issue. Both Steven and Courtney are interviewed in a recent CBS profile of AWOW, which you can watch by clicking here or below.
